CredenShare is not a password manager.\n- **Use Bitwarden Send** for a quick share of text or a file, from your vault, for up to 31 days.\n- **Add CredenShare** when a handoff needs a record of who opened it, a link that lasts longer or starts counting at the first open, or when you need a credential **from** someone outside your organization.\n\n*Who this page is for: teams on Bitwarden that regularly exchange credentials with clients, contractors or vendors.*\n\n## What problem does each tool solve?\n\n**Bitwarden** is an open-source password manager: an end-to-end encrypted vault, apps and browser extensions, organizations with collections and permissions, and, on Teams and Enterprise, SCIM provisioning and event logs. It can be self-hosted.\n\n**CredenShare** is built for the handoff itself: sending a credential to someone through an encrypted link that expires, with a record of every view, and collecting a credential from someone through a Secure Request.\n\nThey meet at the edge of your organization. Inside it, Bitwarden collections do the job. At the edge, Bitwarden Send covers quick shares, and CredenShare covers the rest.\n\n## How does Bitwarden Send work?\n\nSend shares something with anyone, Bitwarden user or not, through a link. On Bitwarden's help pages:\n\n- **What you can send:** text up to 1,000 characters, or a file up to 500 MB (100 MB on mobile). Bitwarden's help pages point to Premium for file Sends.\n- **How long it lasts:** 7 days by default, with a deletion date at most **31 days** after creation, plus an optional expiration date.\n- **Who can open it:** anyone with the link, optionally protected by a **password**, with a **view limit**, and on paid plans **email verification**. You can hide your email address from the recipient.\n- **Encryption:** client-side, end-to-end, with a key that is never included in network requests.\n\nThat's a capable tool for one-off shares. What it doesn't do, on Bitwarden's pages: let you **request** a credential from someone outside, show a per-link record of who opened it, or keep a link available beyond 31 days.\n\n## What does CredenShare add?\n\n### Collecting credentials from people outside\n\n[Secure Requests](/solutions/secure-requests) (Business and Enterprise plans) send a form with the fields you choose. The submitter's browser encrypts each answer to a key that belongs to the request before it's sent, so a client's hosting login or a vendor's API key reaches you without passing through email or chat in readable form. You can require the submitter to sign in, with two-factor authentication, and reuse field templates.\n\n### An access log for every share\n\nEach share records the time and IP address of every view, kept for 3 to 180 days depending on the plan (not on Free). Bitwarden's event logs, on Teams and Enterprise, track activity in **your** organization; CredenShare's log tracks what happened to a link after it left.\n\n### Links on your terms\n\n- **Expiry from 1 hour to 3 months**, optionally counted from the **first open**: useful when you don't know when the recipient will get to it.\n- **Passcodes** with a limit on failed attempts (Solo and above), **view limits**, **required sign-in**, and **IP allowlists** (Business and Enterprise).\n\n### Where your team already works\n\nA **Slack** app (Plus and above), a **browser extension** for Chrome and Firefox, and a **REST API, SDKs for Node, Python, Go and Rust, an MCP server** for AI agents, and **webhooks** (Business and Enterprise).\n\n## CredenShare and Bitwarden side by side\n\n| | CredenShare | Bitwarden |\n|---|---|---|\n| **Built for** | Sending a credential to someone, or collecting one from them, through an encrypted link that expires | Storing, syncing and filling passwords and passkeys |\n| **Everyday password storage** | No | Yes |\n| **Share with someone without an account** | Yes, the core feature | Yes, Bitwarden Send |\n| **What you can share** | Credentials as structured fields; [SecurePaste](https://paste.credenshare.io) for text | Text up to 1,000 characters, or files up to 500 MB |\n| **Link lifetime** | 1 hour to 3 months, optionally from the first open | Up to 31 days from creation |\n| **Passcode and view limit** | Yes and yes | Yes and yes |\n| **Per-link access log** | Views, times and IP addresses, 3–180 days by plan | Not described for Sends |\n| **Collect a credential from someone outside** | Yes: Secure Requests (Business and Enterprise) | Not found on its pages |\n| **Open source** | No | Yes |\n| **Self-hosting** | No, a hosted service | Yes |\n| **Free plan** | Yes: 3 shares a day | Yes |\n| **Price** | Paid plans from $9.99/month (Solo) | Premium $1.65/month; Teams $4/user/month; Enterprise $6/user/month; billed yearly |\n\n*Bitwarden details checked on October 23, 2026 against its own pricing and help pages; see the sources below.*\n\n## What can each company's servers see?\n\n- **Bitwarden** generates and manages all keys on your devices and encrypts locally (AES-CBC-256 with HMAC). Your master password is run through PBKDF2 or Argon2id, and Bitwarden can't access your master password or keys. Sends are also encrypted client-side.\n- **CredenShare** encrypts each share in your browser or client with AES-256-GCM, using a key made for that share alone. The key travels in the part of the link after the `#`, which browsers don't send to servers. The exception: **shares created from Slack are encrypted on our servers**, because the credential passes through Slack first. Secure Request answers are encrypted in the submitter's browser.\n\nBoth are built so the service can't read what you share. The difference is scope: Bitwarden protects your vault; CredenShare protects a copy in transit to someone outside it, and that copy expires.\n\n## Which tool should you use for each handoff?\n\n| Situation | Use | Why |\n|---|---|---|\n| A teammate in your Bitwarden organization needs a password | Bitwarden | Share the collection; it stays in sync. |\n| You need to send a config file to a colleague's personal device | Bitwarden Send | Files up to 500 MB, for up to 31 days. |\n| A contractor needs a database password, but you don't know when they'll start | CredenShare | Expiry that starts at the first open, plus a passcode and an access log. |\n| A client needs to give you their DNS provider login | CredenShare | A Secure Request: they type it into an encrypted form. |\n| You need proof a vendor received a rotated API key | CredenShare | Time and IP of every view. |\n| A CI job or AI agent needs a short-lived credential | CredenShare | The API or MCP server creates the share, with an expiry. Bitwarden Secrets Manager suits secrets your own systems fetch. |\n\n## How do teams use Bitwarden and CredenShare together?\n\n1. **Store** the credential in Bitwarden.\n2. **Share inside** your organization with collections.\n3. **Send quick, one-off items** with Bitwarden Send.\n4. **Use a CredenShare share** when you need an access log, a passcode, a longer or first-open expiry, or a Slack or API workflow.\n5. **Use a Secure Request** when the credential has to come **to** you, then save it into Bitwarden.\n\nOnly the people who create shares and requests need a CredenShare seat; recipients and submitters don't need an account.\n\n## What about Bitwarden Secrets Manager?\n\nBitwarden Secrets Manager is a separate product for **machine** secrets: projects and machine accounts your applications and pipelines read from. It's priced separately: free for 2 users, then $6 or $12 per user per month. It's a good fit when your systems need to fetch secrets.\n\nCredenShare's API, SDKs and MCP server do something different: they **hand a credential to a person or an agent** through an expiring link, with a record of the handoff. Many teams need both.\n\n## What does it cost to use both?\n\nOn published prices, billed yearly:\n\n- **Bitwarden Teams** for 10 people: 10 × $4 = **$40 a month** ($480 a year). **Enterprise** is $6 per user.\n- **CredenShare**: **Free** covers 3 shares a day. **Plus** ($49.99 a month, or $499.99 a year) includes 5 seats, teams and Slack. **Business** ($99.99 a month, or $999.99 a year) adds Secure Requests, the API and IP allowlists. See [pricing](/pricing).\n\n## When is Bitwarden alone enough?\n\n- Your sharing happens **inside** your Bitwarden organization.\n- Outside shares are occasional, last under a month, and don't need a record of who opened them.\n- You never need to **collect** credentials from people outside.\n- You need everything **self-hosted**: CredenShare is a hosted service.\n\n## Verdict\n\nBitwarden is an excellent, open-source home for your credentials, and Send covers quick shares. CredenShare covers the handoffs Send isn't built for: collecting credentials from outside, proving delivery, and links that last longer or start at the first open. Use them together.\n\n**Related:** [CredenShare vs 1Password](/compare/1password) · [1Password vs Bitwarden](/compare/1password-vs-bitwarden) · [All comparisons](/compare)\n\n---\n\n**Sources** (checked October 23, 2026):\n\n- **Bitwarden:**\n - [pricing](https://bitwarden.com/pricing/), [Secrets Manager](https://bitwarden.com/products/secrets-manager/)\n - [about Send](https://bitwarden.com/help/about-send/), [Send lifespan](https://bitwarden.com/help/send-lifespan/), [Send privacy](https://bitwarden.com/help/send-privacy/), [Send encryption](https://bitwarden.com/help/send-encryption/)\n - [security white paper](https://bitwarden.com/help/bitwarden-security-white-paper/), [event logs](https://bitwarden.com/help/event-logs/), [self-hosting](https://bitwarden.com/help/self-host-an-organization/)\n- **CredenShare:** [encryption](https://docs.credenshare.io/security/encryption), [plans and limits](https://docs.credenshare.io/account/plans-and-limits)\n\n*Bitwarden is a trademark of Bitwarden Inc.
