It's a good fit for occasional personal use, or for teams that want to self-host.\n- **CredenShare** is built for sharing credentials at work: encryption in your browser, an access log for every share, links from 1 hour to 3 months, teams, and Secure Requests to collect credentials from people outside.\n- **Choose OneTimeSecret** if you want to self-host, pick a data region, or send the occasional secret without an account. **Choose CredenShare** if you need a record of handoffs, team control, or credentials coming back to you.\n\n*Who this page is for: teams looking for a OneTimeSecret alternative for work credentials.*\n\n## What does each tool do?\n\n**OneTimeSecret** creates a link to a secret that can be viewed **once** and is then destroyed. You can add a passphrase and choose how long the link lives, up to 7 days without an account, 14 days on the free plan, or 30 days on paid plans. The code is open source (MIT), and you can run it yourself.\n\n**CredenShare** sends a credential through an encrypted link that expires, records every view, and lets someone outside your company send you a credential through a Secure Request. It's a hosted service with teams, Slack, a browser extension, an API, SDKs and an MCP server.\n\n## Where is your secret encrypted?\n\nThis is the biggest technical difference.\n\n- **OneTimeSecret** says secrets are \"securely encrypted on our servers\", and \"encrypted in transit and at rest on every plan\". Its pages don't name the algorithm. The service encrypts your secret after receiving it.\n- **CredenShare:** Shares created in the web app, through the API or with the SDKs are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM, and the key travels in the part of the link after the `#`, which browsers don't send to servers. Shares created from Slack are the exception: they're encrypted on our servers. So for shares made in the browser, we store ciphertext we can't read.\n\nIf you don't want the service to ever hold a readable copy of your secret, even briefly, client-side encryption is the property to look for.\n\n## CredenShare and OneTimeSecret side by side\n\n| | CredenShare | OneTimeSecret |\n|---|---|---|\n| **Built for** | Sharing and collecting credentials at work | Self-destructing secret links |\n| **Where content is encrypted** | In your browser or client (Slack shares: on our servers) | On its servers |\n| **Views per link** | One, several, or unlimited | One |\n| **Link lifetime** | 1 hour to 3 months, optionally from the first open | Up to 7 days without an account, 14 days free, 30 days paid |\n| **Passcode** | Yes (Solo and above), with a failed-attempt limit | Optional passphrase |\n| **Access log per share** | Views, times and IP addresses, 3–180 days by plan | Security audit trail listed as beta / coming soon |\n| **Collect a secret from someone** | Yes: Secure Requests (Business and Enterprise) | \"Incoming secrets\" listed on plans; its docs call it a work in progress |\n| **Teams** | Yes (Basic and above), pooled allowance, roles | Members per organization on paid plans; SSO and RBAC on Team Plus |\n| **Integrations** | Slack, browser extension, REST API, SDKs, MCP server, webhooks | REST API |\n| **Data region choice** | No | Yes: EU, UK, US, CA, NZ |\n| **Self-hosting** | No, a hosted service | Yes, open source (MIT) |\n| **Price** | Free plan (3 shares a day); paid from $9.99/month | Free; Identity Plus €35/month; Team Plus €125/month |\n\n*OneTimeSecret details checked on October 23, 2026 against its own pricing and documentation pages; see the sources below.*\n\n## What does CredenShare add for work use?\n\n### A record of every handoff\n\nEach share logs the time and IP address of every view, kept for 3 to 180 days depending on your plan. When a vendor says the API key never arrived, you can check.\n\n### Links that fit how people work\n\nA one-view link is ideal until the first view is a link-preview bot, or the recipient needs to open it twice. CredenShare lets you set **one view, several, or unlimited**, expire after **1 hour to 3 months**, and optionally **start the clock at the first open**, so a link sent on Friday is still there on Monday.\n\n### Credentials coming back to you\n\n[Secure Requests](/solutions/secure-requests) send a form with the fields you choose (\"hosting login\", \"API key\"). The submitter's browser encrypts each answer before sending it, and you can require them to sign in with two-factor authentication.\n\n### Teams and integrations\n\nTeams share an allowance, and admins see team items (with optional zero-knowledge custody on Business and Enterprise). Create shares from **Slack**, a **browser extension** for Chrome and Firefox, or code: a **REST API, SDKs for Node, Python, Go and Rust, and an MCP server** for AI agents.\n\n## Which should you use?\n\n| Situation | Better fit |\n|---|---|\n| You send the occasional password to a friend | OneTimeSecret: free and quick |\n| Your company requires self-hosting or a specific data region | OneTimeSecret: open source, region choice |\n| A contractor needs a credential, and you need to know they got it | CredenShare: access log |\n| A client must send you their hosting login | CredenShare: Secure Request |\n| Your team shares credentials daily, from Slack or scripts | CredenShare: teams and integrations |\n\n## What does each cost for a team?\n\nOn published prices:\n\n| Team need | OneTimeSecret | CredenShare |\n|---|---|---|\n| Occasional secrets | Free (up to 14-day links with an account) | Free, 3 shares a day |\n| An individual at work | Identity Plus, €35/month | Solo, $9.99/month (passcodes, access logs) |\n| A team | Team Plus, €125/month (SSO, RBAC, teams) | Plus, $49.99/month, includes 5 seats and Slack |\n| Collect credentials from outside | \"Incoming secrets\" listed; documented as a work in progress | Business, $99.99/month, with Secure Requests and the API |\n\n## Where OneTimeSecret is the better choice\n\n- **Self-hosting:** OneTimeSecret is open source and runs on your own infrastructure. CredenShare is hosted only.\n- **Data residency:** OneTimeSecret lets you choose a region (EU, UK, US, CA or NZ).\n- **No account at all:** you can create a basic secret without signing up.\n- **Custom domains:** on paid plans, and one on free.\n\n## Before you share a credential: a checklist\n\nThese apply whichever tool you use.\n\n1. **Send the link and the passcode through different channels.** For example, the link by email and the passcode by text message. Someone who reads one channel then still can't open the share.\n2. **Watch out for link scanners.** Some email security filters and chat apps open links automatically to check them, and that can use up a one-view link before your recipient sees it. If that happens, send the link as plain text, through a channel that doesn't pre-open links, or allow more than one view with a short expiry.\n3. **Don't open the link to test it.** On a one-view link, your test is the view.\n4. **Pick the shortest expiry that works.** If you don't know when the recipient will act, a link that starts counting at the **first open** is safer than a long fixed window.\n5. **Rotate after the handoff when you can,** especially for shared or vendor credentials: the link expires, but the credential itself is still valid.\n6. **Keep the credential somewhere durable.** A sharing link is a delivery method, not storage. Save the original in your password manager.\n\n## How do you switch from OneTimeSecret to CredenShare?\n\nThere's nothing to migrate: sharing links are short-lived by design.\n\n1. **Create a CredenShare account.** The Free plan covers 3 shares a day, which is enough to try it.\n2. **Send your next credential with CredenShare** instead of OneTimeSecret: paste the fields, set an expiry and a view limit, and add a passcode on a paid plan.\n3. **Invite your team** (Basic and above) so shares are filed under the team and draw on its allowance.\n4. **Add the integrations you'll use:** the Slack app, the browser extension, or the API and SDKs for scripts.\n5. **Replace \"send me your password\" emails** with a [Secure Request](/solutions/secure-requests) (Business and Enterprise).\n\nLet existing OneTimeSecret links expire on their own.\n\n## Verdict\n\nFor a quick, one-off secret, OneTimeSecret does the job well. For credentials at work, where you need to know a handoff happened, keep the secret out of the provider's hands, or get credentials **from** people, CredenShare is built for it.\n\n**Related:** [CredenShare vs Password Pusher](/compare/password-pusher) · [CredenShare vs Privnote](/compare/privnote) · [All comparisons](/compare)\n\n---\n\n**Sources** (checked October 23, 2026):\n\n- **OneTimeSecret:** [pricing](https://onetimesecret.com/en/pricing), [compare plans](https://docs.onetimesecret.com/en/pricing/compare-plans), [secret links](https://docs.onetimesecret.com/en/secret-links/), [data protection](https://docs.onetimesecret.com/en/security/data-protection), [incoming secrets](https://docs.onetimesecret.com/en/custom-domains/incoming-secrets/), [GitHub](https://github.com/onetimesecret/onetimesecret)\n- **CredenShare:** [encryption](https://docs.credenshare.io/security/encryption), [plans and limits](https://docs.credenshare.io/account/plans-and-limits)\n\n*OneTimeSecret is a trademark of its owner.
